Frequently asked questions

How do I apply for a place?

Fill in an application form and return it to us by post with a non-refundable fee of $50. This does not guarantee a place but puts you on the waiting list.

How long is the waiting list?

Because of heavy demand, our waiting list is long, with about 350 children on it.

Who gets preference?

We have strict and detailed criteria about who gets preference when places become available (see our criteria for selection). In short, preference is given to siblings of those children already at the centre, then to families who live and work in the City of Melbourne.

How do I find out where I am on the list?

You can call Administration Support/Waiting List Coordinator between 10am and noon on Thursdays. Please do not call unless you have been on the waiting list for at least one year.

When can I apply for a place?

You can apply for a place while you are pregnant -- there'll be plenty of time to tell us your child's name and birthday when she or he arrives.

When can my child start?

Children cannot start before six months of age. Most places are offered in October and November for a place at the start of the following calendar year, although sometimes places become vacant during the year, eg. if a family moves interstate.
